William Whittington

The 1851 census shows William age 17 living at home in Sheet Street with his mother, father, brother and sister. It lists his occupation as teacher and his brother John as a chorister at St Georges Chapel.

The 1852 School Inspectors Report indicates that a W. Whittington was in his 4th year as an apprentice (pupil teacher) at St Marks School in Windsor

The 1864 Royal Free School log book indicates that on 30th August School commenced on Monday, William Whittington Headmaster.

William Whittington snr the father, on the 1851 census was a print compositor living in Sheet Street. In 1877 he is listed in the Kelly’s Directory. By 1881 he was a printer and bookseller living at 69 Peascod Street. 

The 1881 census shows William now living in the School House at Bachelors Acre with his wife Emily and five sons and three daughters. William occupation is listed as Schoolmaster.
