Local Newspapers
Windsor Newspapers and Journals
In George III’s reign local journalism effectively started.
Joseph Pote published in 1745 a “Windsor and Eton Journal” but it only lasted a few years.
On 1st August 1812 Charles Knight produced the first number of the “Windsor and Eton Express” Mr Richard Oxley became co-proprietor in 1833 and moved to 4 High Street in 1836. The High Street location backed on to Bachelors Acre which is where the print works were located.
Between 1861 and 1900 there were at least eight competing papers that did not survive.
