Back of New Road (Now Victoria Street) off Alexander Road

This school was located in the same place as the Royal Free Infants School and next to the National School.

The formal opening of the Infants School took place in June 1836 it catered for about 100 children.

The Lancastrian system of instruction was initially used and Mr Samuel Wilderspin, the founder of the Infant School System, completed a series of lectures at the Guildhall.

“Frederick Rainer was born in Queen Street (now called Market Street), Windsor in 1836. Frederick was sent to the National School in Garfield Place, St Leonard’s Road, but when he was 10 years old he obtained a place at the Free School in Church Street”. The National School in Garfield Place had two classrooms one for boys and one for girls?
